Frequently Asked Questions

Top Questions

Do Owala bottles/tumblers contain lead?

Owala bottles are lead-free. Always have been, and always will be.

In response to the recent attention around this topic, Owala continues to emphasize that all bottles and tumblers are made without lead, including FreeSip bottles and the rest of the main drinkware lineup.

From the very beginning, Owala chose a lead-free solder approach instead of following the older industry standard, as part of a broader focus on consumer safety and well-being.

Can I put other beverages in there besides water?

That depends on which product you have.

Stainless Steel FreeSip, Eastman Tritan Plastic, Kids' FreeSip, Kids' Flip, and Flip are not intended for hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids.

40oz Tumbler, 24oz Tumbler, and SmoothSip can be used for cold drinks and can also handle carbonated or hot beverages.

NOTE: Always use caution with hot drinks. Never fill the product with liquid hot enough to scald, and refer to the care guidance for product-specific warnings and instructions.

Are Owala bottles dishwasher safe?

Stainless Steel

The lids are top-rack dishwasher safe, and the straws can go in the silverware bin. The cups are technically dishwasher safe too, but hand-washing is still recommended if you want to preserve the finish.

Eastman Tritan Plastic

All parts are top-rack dishwasher safe.

Are Owala bottles microwave safe?

Stainless Steel

Stainless-steel bottles should never be microwaved.

Eastman Tritan Plastic

Even though the plastics used in Owala products are BPA- and phthalate-free, microwaving is strongly discouraged. Pressure can build inside the bottle and cause the lid or cap to open unexpectedly and spray the contents.

Best practice: do not microwave Owala bottles.

When will my order be delivered?

In general, shipments within the United States take about 3 to 5 business days from the date of fulfillment.

For a more specific update, use the tracking number included with the order receipt or shipping confirmation.

What is FreeSip technology?

FreeSip is designed so you do not have to choose between a built-in straw and a wide-mouth opening.

The patented spout lets you sip upright through the straw or tilt back and drink through the opening, depending on how you want to use the bottle.

Have Owala bottles been tested?

Owala does not sell untested products. If you want to share additional testing details, add them here.

Where can I find the size/dimensions of each bottle?

FreeSip

24oz: 10.68 in (H) x 3.12 in (D)

32oz: 10.66 in (H) x 3.43 in (D)

40oz: 11.64 in (H) x 3.60 in (D)

What are the instructions for use?

Wash before use. The lid is top-rack dishwasher safe, hand-washing the cup is recommended to preserve its finish, and harsh chemicals such as bleach or abrasives should be avoided.

Do not microwave, freeze, or boil.

Do not use with hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids unless that specific product is designed for those beverages.

Keep the button clear of other objects to help avoid accidental opening.

Use the loop to help reduce accidental button presses.

When opening the bottle, keep fingers away from the recess behind the spout cover.

Warnings

Drinking hot liquids can cause injury. Hot, carbonated, and perishable liquids can also build pressure inside the bottle and lead to leaking, spraying, or sudden lid movement, so always open carefully.

What is Color Drop?

Use this section for the Color Drop explanation, launch timing, and any release rules you want customers to know.

Customization & Corporate Gifting

Does Owala offer custom tumblers or water bottles?

Yes. The customizer lets customers personalize select bottles with engraving or full-color printing, depending on the product.

How do I make a custom Owala bottle?

You can do it through the online customization flow. Pick a bottle size, mix and match colors, and build something personal.

Does Owala offer corporate gifting or bulk customization?

Not yet in the full large-scale sense. For now, smaller custom batches can still be placed through the customizer, with up to 15 bottles per order.

Can't I just place a bunch of small customized orders to get to my quantity?

If the order is only for etched bottles, placing multiple smaller orders is usually manageable. Full-color printing is different, because splitting an order into smaller batches can introduce color shift from one order to the next.

To keep printed bottles consistent, it is better not to split a larger color-print request into many separate orders.

So, how do I get my hands on 16 to 100+ units?

The larger 16 to 100+ unit workflow is usually handled through a dedicated corporate gifting path.

Until that flow is available on your store, this is a good spot to direct larger inquiries to support or to a future waitlist.

Product Care

How often do I need to wash my Owala bottle?

If you use your bottle every day, washing it daily is a pretty good rule of thumb.

How do I clean the different parts of my Owala bottles?

Owala bottles are designed to be as simple and easy to clean as possible, but the best method depends on the part.

Lids: All lids are top-rack dishwasher safe and designed for easy cleaning. The spout gasket should be removed with the pull tab and cleaned separately. A sponge or straw brush can help reach smaller areas, and a short soak in distilled white vinegar can help loosen buildup.

Straws: The straws can be removed and placed in the dishwasher's silverware bin.

Cups: If the cup is Eastman Tritan plastic, it can go on the top rack. If the cup is stainless steel, hand-wash it with warm, soapy water.

Are Owala bottles freezer safe?

Stainless Steel

Technically, the bottle can go in the freezer, but the triple-layer insulation is already designed to keep drinks cold. In most cases, adding ice is the better option.

Eastman Tritan Plastic

Freezing is not recommended. Like most plastic bottles, it can become more brittle and more likely to crack in very low temperatures. If the contents are frozen anyway, leave room at the top and keep the lid open so the expansion has space.

Orders & Warranty

How can I check, update, change, or cancel my order?

Mistakes happen. If the order was placed very recently, changes may still be possible during business hours. Once fulfillment moves forward, updates and cancellations become much harder to make.

If changes are no longer possible, this answer usually directs customers to a return request flow and to their account page for order status.

Do Owala bottles have a warranty?

Owala stands behind the quality and craftsmanship of its bottles. If there is a product issue or a likely manufacturing defect, this section is meant to point customers toward the warranty process.

Coverage typically does not include the following:

  • Accidental damage
  • Improper care or misuse
  • Normal wear and tear

If a customer is not sure whether the issue qualifies, this is still a good place to direct them to the claim flow so support can review the case.

What payment types do you accept?

Major credit cards are accepted, along with debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Can I place an order with expedited shipping?

Yes.

What is Owala's return policy?

Unused bottles in their original packaging can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of the original purchase date.

Once the return is received, refunds are typically processed within about 10 business days.

Please note: unless the issue is the result of an error on your side, return shipping costs are usually the customer's responsibility.

Where does Owala ship to?

Owala ships to the United States, the UK, Australia, and Canada.

Select products, including some FreeSip and SmoothSip styles, are also available in parts of the EU.
